My recollection of Grand-Mother’s attic

captures a spirit in reflection

to all things I love…

The library in my mind is a confession journey

where every moment in time has prepared me

for today and for tomorrow and my child’s ‘morrow.

Sitting for hours upon hours on dusty lounges

Sweeping the thickness away of dirt and cinders to sit

Cracking open rusted metal trinket boxes

Snuggling in a wrapped quilted blanket

Discovering forgotten toys

Pondering through obscure texts with missing pages

Tempting to repair snaggled Stradivarius strings

Counting old worn Confederate paper money

Unlocking frayed jewelry boxes to find hidden gems

Peaking through vintage bags and cases

Collecting a pile of dated novelties to restore

Straightening old stand up mirrors while

trying on shabby clothes and hats and shoes and raincoats

Cleaning faces of cracked antique ball-jointed glass dolls

Separating old and new

Wondering what’s old and new

And…of course, hoping to find a suitcase full of spendable money!

I can still picture myself in Grand-Mother’s attic!
