Upon my many visits to Venice and Carnival,
there was one gala I saw firsthand the truth of how the historical city is sinking……
well let’s explore the facts….
the seawaters are rising.
Being vulnerable to floods due to the affected sea floor and tidal cycles where
earlier industrial projects taunted with its stability, Venice has sunk by about nine inches
in the last century or so. I spent 3 weeks photographing Carnival several years ago
and the saddest sight of the notorious acqua alta
(which primarily occurs during the winter months)
was where San Marco Square was covered with planked platforms for
people to walk over the waters. Everyone was going about their usual manners;
to and from work, stopping for their daily espresso, shopping within the artisan’s shops
or visiting the churches….all sad to me, but they have grown quite used to this.
The good news is the MOSE Project was established in 2003;
and yet with some funding delays the city officials have a consortium of engineer firms
preparing underwater mobile gates onto the sea floor and devises a method
that when the seawater rises above a certain level air will be pumped into the gates.
This will cause them to rise and shut out the Adriatic.
I can’t say what my most favorite city of the world is, but Venice is top on my list.
I remember several days waking up in a very cold room,
showering in about a 2-foot-by-2-foot bathroom, grabbing my camera and equipment,
rushing down the winding stairs to hear the owner of the apartment remind me to
turn the heat “off” while I was out to save energy…
which meant I would return to a frozen room that evening….
and escaping through winding cobblestone paths that were at times only a foot slim
where I had to turn side-ways just to creep through…………..
hence…..I got lost in Venice on purpose!
And I loved it!

For those of you who have stumbled upon my BamPu Legacies Blog that are not
a resident of Second Life,
the photo above was taken within the realms of SL’s virtual world where I spend
hours upon hours
creating scenes for my virtual photography!
This particular photo was taken at an in-world roleplay sim “Venexia” which is,
in my opinion, the most perfectly built sim depicting the
romantic city of Venezia that I have ever seen.
I am wearing the stunning Contessa Gown in noir by The Annex,
which is available in 3 color palettes, along with a magical mask and tiara I picked up at
We Love Roleplay as a gift from aisling!
Splashing some ornate across my breasts,
Zibska also has a delightful gift at WLRP ~ Takara Necklace & Cuffs!
The largest folder I have in my SL inventory is titled “EMO-tions Hair ~ All here!”
With much delight I swooshed over to On9’s 2nd event to pick up her “Juna” hair
with gorgeous braids and thought I should wear a nicely sunkissed skin
“Gloria” by LoveMe Skins to finalize my photo.
Although the mysterious mask is hiding Gloria’s beautiful face,
the texturing is perfect and I plan to wear it for my next upcoming review!
Now for the pose…….WOW!
